How to use it

   Download and open it

   Save the file anywhere you like, then double click it. It opens in Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox. There is nothing to install and no account to create.

   Fill in your business once

   Add your name, address, and logo. They are saved in your browser for next time. Nothing you type is ever sent anywhere.

   Print or save as PDF

   Add your line items, pick your currency, set your own tax label and rate, then press Print and choose Save as PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is it actually free?

Yes. The Invoice and Quote Builder is free to download and free to use, with no account, no email address required, and no limit on how many invoices or quotes you create. The licence in the file allows you to use and modify it for your own business, including commercially. The only thing you may not do is resell it as your own product.

Do I need to sign up or give an email address?

No. The download link on this page gives you the file directly. There is an optional newsletter you can join if you want new templates and guides, but it is not required and the tool is identical either way.

Where is my invoice data stored?

In your own browser, on your own computer, using local storage. The file makes no network requests whatsoever, so nothing you type is ever sent to Merkado or to anyone else. You can verify this yourself: open the file, disconnect from the internet, and it keeps working normally.

Does it work offline?

Yes. It is one self-contained HTML file with no external fonts, scripts, or images, so once it is on your computer it never needs a connection again. This is the main practical difference between it and a browser-based invoice generator you have to log into.

Can it email or send the invoice for me?

No, and that is deliberate. Sending would require an account and a server, which would defeat the point of a single offline file. You print the finished document or save it as a PDF, then send it yourself however you normally do. If you want invoicing that tracks payment status, you want a full app rather than this tool.

Can I use it for quotes and estimates as well as invoices?

Yes. A single toggle switches the document between a quote and an invoice. It changes the title and swaps the due date for a valid-until date, so the same saved business details serve both.

Which currencies and tax rates does it support?

43 currencies are built in, covering North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, and each one is formatted using your browser's own locale rules. You set the tax label and the rate yourself, so it works for VAT, GST, sales tax, or no tax at all. It does not look up tax rates for you and it does not file anything with a tax authority.

Does it put its own branding on my invoices?

Yes, one line. The printed document carries a small credit at the bottom that reads Made with Merkado, set in light grey below your own payment details. We would rather tell you that here than have you find it after you print. If you would rather it was not there, delete it. The file is yours, it is plain HTML, and the AI prompt included inside will remove it in a single instruction. There is no paid tier that unlocks this, because there is no paid tier.

Can I change the design or add my own fields?

Yes, and this is the part most free invoice generators cannot do. Because it is one plain HTML file with no build step and no dependencies, you can open it in Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or any AI coding tool and ask for changes in plain English. A ready-to-paste prompt is included at the top of the file under Make it yours.

Who makes this, and what is the catch?

Merkado is a marketplace that sells complete business apps as source code you own outright. The builder is a genuine free tool with no upsell inside the file. It is also an honest sample of how we build: one thing you own, that works, that an AI tool can edit.
